5 Ways to Drink More Water

Friday, March 23rd, 2018

We all know that we should drink more water and that by the time our mouths feel dry we are already dehydrated but did you know there are some ways that can help encourage you to drink more water. I am going to share with you 5 ways to drink more water because once drinking more becomes a habit you will find it much easier to increase your daily intake. The benefits will be felt very quickly once you make it a daily ritual to drink for water.

1. Drink a glass as soon as you wake up in the morning.

While you have been sleeping, your body has been working hard to rejuvenate your organs and repair your cells, therefore, it would truly appreciate the hydration that comes from a wonderful glass of water. It will also flush out the toxins that have accumulated around your joints whilst sleeping. A great start to the day and even better if you drink it lukewarm with the juice of 1/2 a freshly squeezed lemon added for a little extra detox.

2. Use a Refillable Drink Bottle.

While it is great to drink out of a glass, it is not always practical. When you are on the go all of the time it makes it hard to always have water on hand. If you make it part of your routine to take a water bottle with you wherever you go then you will always have your water easily accessible. When it is always right with you or in front of you there will always be that fresh reminder to keep you drinking regularly.

3. Drink a glass before each meal.

Often times we are thirsty and dehydrated but our body mistakes it as the signs of hunger. If we make it a habit to drink a glass of water before each meal not only will it help our digestion of the foods but it will also fill us up slightly. This has a wonderful way of stopping us from overeating.

4. Drink herbal teas.

Herbal teas are a wonderful way to aid you in consuming more water because herbal teas are consumed without anything else they are just as good as having water. Not only that, the benefits of many herbs will also help to keep you healthy and active. Herbs can be chosen for not only their taste but also their health benefits. For example, Chamomile is great for relaxation and calming the nerves, wonderful in times of stress. Dandelion helps to promote digestion and is also know to help cure acne. Lemon and turmeric water has great health benefits also. There are so many more positives to drinking herbal tea but if it helps you increase your water intake then that in itself would be enough. Make sure you don’t add anything else to it such as sugar.

5. Add fruit and or vegetables to your water.

Many people find water hard to drink due to the lack of taste, I know as a child I did. Try adding some cut up fruit to your bottle before you fill it. What you add is entirely up to you and what you like. Try experimenting with different things until you find something you like. Some ideas could be citrus fruits like orange, lemon or lime. Berries like blueberries, strawberries or raspberries. You could even use cucumber or watermelon. Whatever you use will benefit you. Many fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which help the body to fight off free radicals within and keep you healthy at a cellular level.

Friday, November 13th, 2015

Detox-waterWater is necessary for optimum health but many people don’t actually like the taste of water alone so here are a few great flavoured water ideas.

When you add natural flavours to your water you are getting the health benefits of those additional items as well as the goodness of the water. Many of the flavoured water drinks purchased from the supermarket are loaded with sugar which does your body no favours.

So here are some great flavoured water ideas for you to try.

  1. Lemon water is probably one of the most popular flavoured waters to try as it is a known fact that lemon has a wonderful detoxing effect on the body. Great for people that want to lose weight as it breaks down the fats that we have consumed.
  2. Mint is a great additive to your water, not only is it really refreshing but it also is a muscle relaxant so it will help relax those tight cramped up stomach muscles and improve the flow of bile.
  3. Apple & Cinnamon is also a great flavoured water Idea as apples are filled with vitamins and research is proving that cinnamon is known to  stabilize the  blood sugar levels which in turn  increases the metabolism of glucose.  Cinnamon helps prevent the storage of fat by lowering the blood sugar levels.

You could really use any fruit, they all have health benefits and will be much better than any artificial flavour enhancer. The really great thing about making your own flavoured water is you choose the flavour that suits you. There are so many wonderful combinations and additions. you could use any of the following or a combination.

Blueberries, raspberries, orange, lemon, lime, strawberries, cucumber, pineapple, watermelon, ginger, mint or cinnamon. Something else that is great to do is to blend up your fruit choices in a blender and then freeze them into ice cube trays like below. That way you always have something on hand to add to your water. There is nothing better than a tall glass of fruit infused water on a warm summer day.
