30-Day Water Challenge Revisited

Friday, September 28th, 2018

Well, here we go, the 30-day water challenge revisited. A couple of years ago we wrote about the 30-day water challenge. We spoke about how it was really important to drink enough water daily. To keep your body working at optimum performance levels, you should be drinking 0.033 litres of water per kilo of bodyweight.

With summer fast approaching, we should be thinking about our hydration levels. As we are always saying, by the time you feel thirsty, your body is already crying out for water. Your body is telling you that you are dehydrated when you start to experience the following symptoms.

  • Thirst
  • Dry or sticky mouth
  • Not peeing very much
  • Dark yellow pee
  • Dry, cool skin
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps

Our bodies are amazing machines that if we listen will let us know what is wrong. Lack of fluids can be the start of many problems. We can alleviate many of these problems by just monitoring and increasing our fluid intake. The funny thing is that it is only difficult to drink more for the first few days, but then gradually each and every day it gets a little easier.

I found a terrific bottle in the sports shop that actually has the measurements in ml and litres on the side as well as the times of the day. This makes it really easy to drink more water but in smaller increments. It is a 2-litre bottle, so quite large to carry around but you can decant into a glass. I have found it a great way to monitor how much I am drinking because it shows if I am on track. I take this around with me during the day and it definitely helps me to drink more water on a daily basis.

Will you do the 30-day water challenge?

Make a decision today and your body will thank you for it. Head over to our 30- day water challenge post and check out the instructions. Then grab yourself a bottle so you can monitor your fluid intake. It’s as simple as that and you will be so glad you did. Here’s to a healthy, hydrated new you.

5 Ways to Drink More Water

Friday, March 23rd, 2018

We all know that we should drink more water and that by the time our mouths feel dry we are already dehydrated but did you know there are some ways that can help encourage you to drink more water. I am going to share with you 5 ways to drink more water because once drinking more becomes a habit you will find it much easier to increase your daily intake. The benefits will be felt very quickly once you make it a daily ritual to drink for water.

1. Drink a glass as soon as you wake up in the morning.

While you have been sleeping, your body has been working hard to rejuvenate your organs and repair your cells, therefore, it would truly appreciate the hydration that comes from a wonderful glass of water. It will also flush out the toxins that have accumulated around your joints whilst sleeping. A great start to the day and even better if you drink it lukewarm with the juice of 1/2 a freshly squeezed lemon added for a little extra detox.

2. Use a Refillable Drink Bottle.

While it is great to drink out of a glass, it is not always practical. When you are on the go all of the time it makes it hard to always have water on hand. If you make it part of your routine to take a water bottle with you wherever you go then you will always have your water easily accessible. When it is always right with you or in front of you there will always be that fresh reminder to keep you drinking regularly.

3. Drink a glass before each meal.

Often times we are thirsty and dehydrated but our body mistakes it as the signs of hunger. If we make it a habit to drink a glass of water before each meal not only will it help our digestion of the foods but it will also fill us up slightly. This has a wonderful way of stopping us from overeating.

4. Drink herbal teas.

Herbal teas are a wonderful way to aid you in consuming more water because herbal teas are consumed without anything else they are just as good as having water. Not only that, the benefits of many herbs will also help to keep you healthy and active. Herbs can be chosen for not only their taste but also their health benefits. For example, Chamomile is great for relaxation and calming the nerves, wonderful in times of stress. Dandelion helps to promote digestion and is also know to help cure acne. Lemon and turmeric water has great health benefits also. There are so many more positives to drinking herbal tea but if it helps you increase your water intake then that in itself would be enough. Make sure you don’t add anything else to it such as sugar.

5. Add fruit and or vegetables to your water.

Many people find water hard to drink due to the lack of taste, I know as a child I did. Try adding some cut up fruit to your bottle before you fill it. What you add is entirely up to you and what you like. Try experimenting with different things until you find something you like. Some ideas could be citrus fruits like orange, lemon or lime. Berries like blueberries, strawberries or raspberries. You could even use cucumber or watermelon. Whatever you use will benefit you. Many fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which help the body to fight off free radicals within and keep you healthy at a cellular level.

A Great Office Solution

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

Do you want a great office solution to keep staff and clients happy? It is a known fact that when people are dehydrated they become grumpy and irritable, in actual fact dehydration is the main cause of moodiness, frustration and headaches. As our bodies become depleted of fluid we lose concentration and can’t think straight which in turn leads to irritability and lack of focus.

Just imagine everyone happy, joyous and focused on what they are doing. Something as simple as a glass of water can help very much in this goal. Increasing fluid intake just by a couple of glasses of water each day will  improve your long-term health and keep your organs working at their optimum performance levels. No more grumpy customers! that would make such a difference in everyone’s day….

We speak to many people each and every day whilst we are visiting clients and servicing our coolers and one of the most common thing we are told is that once the cooler was installed everyone increased the amount of water they drank and they were less inclined to drink sugary carbonated drinks. They also felt that having the cooler there encouraged them to drink more.

Our water coolers come with cool and cold or hot and cold options. So if you are wanting to serve hot beverages you have boiling water on tap without turning on a kettle. That is great for businesses where staff have a 10-minute tea break as they don’t have to wait around for a kettle to boil to make their cuppas.

Our coolers are great office solutions where clients and customers are waiting around for services such as doctors, dentists, and other medical waiting rooms, Mechanics workshops, hotel lobbies, in fact pretty much anywhere that has access to water and a power point.

Our rental plans start at as little as $10 per week + GST with no locked in contract and a seven-day free trial. We service Far North Queensland from Innisfail to Mossman and the Tablelands.

How Spending $10 Per Week Will Improve Your Profits

Friday, March 4th, 2016

I want to show you how spending $10 per week will improve your profits and make your business stand out from the rest.  It doesn’t matter what type of business you have. Everyone can benefit from this and it may surprise you.

Did you know that dehydration is the number one cause of daytime fatigue, well most people actually don’t. 75% of the adult population suffer from chronic dehydration, now that number is huge. Here are just a few facts about water consumption and why everyone needs to be encouraged to drink more water.

  1. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  2. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day (half of that coming from food and drinks other than plain water) could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  3. A tiny  2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  4. Researchers from the University of Connecticut’s Human Performance Laboratory found that even mild dehydration alters a person’s mood, energy levels, and mental function.

So when you look at those statistics you can see why you are not getting 100% from your staff and probably yourself. I am not saying that they are deliberately not working to their full potential, what I am saying is that they are more than likely not even aware that they are dehydrated.  99% of employers supply tea and coffee to their staff for break times which is wonderful. However, caffeine has been shown to contribute to dehydration. Most people will have a bottle of coke or some soft drink while on a break and all of these things are all making the situation worse.

We live in one of the hottest parts of Australia and many people just get used to the climate but they don’t think about whether their water consumption is adequate for their daily activities.

As an employer wouldn’t you want to make sure your staff are hydrated enough to work at peak performance for their whole working day and not just the morning. We all know it gets to about 2 pm and the afternoon fuzzies move in, everyone slows down and starts yawning and clock watching to see how much longer they have before home time. What if you could stop that and have your staff attentive and productive all day.

I have the solution!

Let us install a  Filtered Water Cooler at your place of business. All this will cost you is $10 + GST each week. Just imagine how much happier your staff will be once they are properly hydrated. Our research has found that once a cooler is installed the average person notices that their water consumption goes up by approximately 300 to 500%, people just automatically keep filling their bottles up and are much more focused and alert.

We install the cooler and service it every 13 weeks so you don’t have to do a thing.

How Much Water Should I Drink?

Friday, January 8th, 2016

waterThis is a question we often ask ourselves, “How much water should I drink?”  There are many factors to take into consideration when working out how much water you need to drink daily. Fluid intake needs can vary quite dramatically from one individual to another. There are many factors to be taken into account including things such as:

  1. The height and weight of the individual: Your height and weight will have a direct affect on how much you need to drink to stay hydrated. This is the main factor for each individual. The chart at the bottom of the page will give you an indication as to how much you need, however, the below 3 factors should also be taken into account.
  2. The Environment: Climates around the world vary greatly and where you live will have a direct impact on whether or not you need to increase your fluid intake. Please do not take thirst as an indicator that you need to drink, by the time you are actually thirsty your body is telling you that you are in fact already dehydrated. This is generally around the time that you will start to get a headache. This is important to know as someone living in a tropical climate would need to drink far more than someone in a cool temperate climate, they would also become dehydrated much more quickly regardless of the level of activity.
  3. Exercise and physical activity: Different types of exercise affect the body differently and can make a huge difference on how much we need to drink to replace the fluids lost when the body sweats. Exercise also causes the body to lose salts and electrolytes when we sweat so these also need to be replaced. A pinch of salt to your water will help do the trick. Do not just use any salt, sea salt  contains 84 minerals and nutrients that our body needs each and every day and will help to replace minerals that the body loses in sweat. Himalayan pink salt is wonderful too but please never, never use table salt, this has been processed and will actually do you more harm than good. This calculator will help you to work out how much extra you should drink by taking into account the type of exercise and many other factors.
  4. Health and wellness: When we are unwell we often need to increase our fluid intake. Often our temperature rises as our bodies try to fight off infection this causes a loss in bodily fluids. Sickness and diarrhoea will cause us to dehydrate quite quickly also. It is in these times we really need to ensure we keep up our fluid intake.

Weight in Kg Litres Per Day
55 2.29
60 2.5
65 2.71
70 2.92
75 3.13
80 3.33
85 3.54
90 3.75
95 3.96
100 4.17
105 4.38
110 4.58

You can work out how much you need by using the calculation below which is promoted  by  Paul Chek  http://www.chekinstitute.com/. This is calculated on our body weight in kg’s, which is then divided by 0.024. This level of water intake works out at 1.250 litres (1250ml) for each 30kg of body weight.

Example –
A 90kg person would require 3.750 litres per day

calculated as 90kg divided by 0.024 = 3.750 litres per day

Great Flavoured Water Ideas

Friday, November 13th, 2015

Detox-waterWater is necessary for optimum health but many people don’t actually like the taste of water alone so here are a few great flavoured water ideas.

When you add natural flavours to your water you are getting the health benefits of those additional items as well as the goodness of the water. Many of the flavoured water drinks purchased from the supermarket are loaded with sugar which does your body no favours.

So here are some great flavoured water ideas for you to try.

  1. Lemon water is probably one of the most popular flavoured waters to try as it is a known fact that lemon has a wonderful detoxing effect on the body. Great for people that want to lose weight as it breaks down the fats that we have consumed.
  2. Mint is a great additive to your water, not only is it really refreshing but it also is a muscle relaxant so it will help relax those tight cramped up stomach muscles and improve the flow of bile.
  3. Apple & Cinnamon is also a great flavoured water Idea as apples are filled with vitamins and research is proving that cinnamon is known to  stabilize the  blood sugar levels which in turn  increases the metabolism of glucose.  Cinnamon helps prevent the storage of fat by lowering the blood sugar levels.

You could really use any fruit, they all have health benefits and will be much better than any artificial flavour enhancer. The really great thing about making your own flavoured water is you choose the flavour that suits you. There are so many wonderful combinations and additions. you could use any of the following or a combination.

Blueberries, raspberries, orange, lemon, lime, strawberries, cucumber, pineapple, watermelon, ginger, mint or cinnamon. Something else that is great to do is to blend up your fruit choices in a blender and then freeze them into ice cube trays like below. That way you always have something on hand to add to your water. There is nothing better than a tall glass of fruit infused water on a warm summer day.

fruit-ice-cubes

So when your child asks for cordial next time why not make them a natural flavoured drink that won’t affect their behaviour or ruin their teeth. Even better get them to help you make the fruit cubes and they will find it exciting and fun.
